1933年8月的某一天,国际现代建筑协会(CIAM)的建筑师们从马赛登上了开往雅典的S.S. Patris||号(意为家园)邮轮,沿途展开的是未来与昨日世界混沌未分的景象:港口、城市、神庙、村庄、丛林、铁桥、牛、马、汽车、火车...... CIAM第四次会议就发生在这段航行中,在涡轮机的轰鸣中,以勒·柯布西耶(Le Corbusier)为首的建筑师们决意“向机器学习”,会议提出了“功能城市”的构想,以及以绝对的理性来规划和建设城市的主张,这些主张最终集结在1943年出版的《雅典宪章》(Athens Charter)中,极大影响了现代建筑乃至今日城市的面貌。
然而,2020年初的公共事件却向现代主义的信徒们发出了最猛烈的质疑:现代主义许诺给城市生活的美好前景里潜伏了不可预见的危机——细微之物从不可见之处悄然入侵,松动了这台高效运转了几十年的庞然大物。
《柯布的巨轮&米提斯的森林》以1933年这段决定了现代城市方向的航行作为线索和对话对象,邀请各位重返S.S. Patris号的现场,重新发现沿途过程中被当年的乘客所忽视的古老文明和地方智慧。在未知的旅途中,乘客可以在任意的站点停留,在每一站他们都会遇到一个具有米提斯(Mētis)的个体或群体,这里的米提斯不仅指实践的技能、地方的经验、使个体摆脱困境的计谋,也包括团队他人的智慧。而在站点和站点之间,乘客们也会和另外一些不断游走的,具有米提斯的个体或群体们不期而遇,这也不难想象,因为乘客们已经被告知,米提斯从来都不是,也永远不会是,固化的知识。

One day in August 1933, the architects of CIAM (the International Congresses of Modern Architecture) boarded the S.S. Patris (meaning homeland) from Marseille for Athens, and along the way unfolded the chaotic landscape of the future and the world of yesterday: ports, cities, temples, villages, jungles, iron bridges, cows, horses, cars, trains ....... The fourth CIAM congress took place on this voyage when, amidst the roar of the turbines, the architects, led by Le Corbusier, decided to "Learning from Machines," raised the concept of "the functional city," and the idea of planning and building cities with absolute rationality, which was eventually consolidated in the Athens Charter published in 1943, which have greatly influenced modern architecture and the figure of today's cities.
However, the public event of 2020 has challenged the believers of Modernism in the strongest terms: the promise of a better life in the city is lurking with an unforeseen crisis - the intrusion of the invisible loosening the giant machine that has been operating efficiently for decades.
Using the voyage in 1933 that shaped the direction of the modern city as both a clue and a dialogue object, Le Corbusier's Ship & Mētis's Forest invites you to board the S.S. Patris and rediscover the ancient civilizations and local wisdom that the architects in 1933 ignored along the way. On their journey into the unknown, passengers can stop at any station and meet an individual or group with Mētis there. Mētis refers not only to the practical skills, local experience, stratagems that get out of trouble, but also to the wisdom of connecting others. Between the stations, it's also possible to bump into a floating Mētis because Mētis is never solidified.
