花鸟岛位于中国的东海,是舟山群岛最北的一个岛屿。2019年末爆发的疫情将全世界的人们困于自身的家宅,每个人仿若一座孤岛,肉身距离的消退,也经由社交媒体、网络的关联和反馈将人与人之间关系进行打破和重组。于此同步带出了一个新的契机让我们重新思考环境、自然,乃至“非人”的联系。因此,2020首届花鸟岛国际动画艺术节将聚焦于生态和环境的议题,与艺术家一同探索我们共同的栖息之所。对于我们正在步入的“后”疫情时代,我们如何基于行动、协商和联结,展开对未来同一个世界的想象和协商。

Hua Niao Island, located in the East China Sea, is in the north end of Zhou Shan Islands. The epidemic that broke out in the end of 2019 left people around the world trapped in their houses. Everyone seemed to be an island. The vanishment of physical distance has deconstructed and reorganized the relationships between people through the connection and reflection of internet and social media. This gives us an opportunity to reconsider the relationship between environment, nature and even the “non-human”. Therefore, the 2020 1st Huaniao Island International Animation Arts Festival will focus on the topic of ecology and environment and explore with artists our common habitat. How should we act, negotiate and cooperate at a “post-eHEIMATpidemic” period we are stepping into? This makes us imagine the future world.

人又退回了汪洋中的岛屿,静立水中,未免孤独。

模拟世界自然倍受亲赖。早在疫情之前,在北极圈附近生活的人们就会去视频网站观看航船在地中海漂游,沙漠国家的居民也会听着录制雨水落在台阶上的音频作品入睡。比起早已摄制好的视听媒介,游戏在模拟人类体验这方面又进一层——一切都是以玩家的视角出发,声音与图像也是即时读取和渲染的,你看到的和听到的和他/她总是有细腻的不同。在一切游戏之中,最能满足人们去远方、去自然、去别处的莫过于步行行走器这个不像游戏的游戏类别。这种游戏中,环境本身变成绝对的主角,故事、人物、动作如果存在,也会以极简主义的形式存在,人们在游戏里体验最多的是探索、导航和观察。步行模拟器中的环境是属于玩家一个人的行动空间,随着你的步伐,山川与河流一点点展开,有时你好似永远也走不完这张地图,有时又被迷宫般的建筑在原地兜圈。

这是绝对主观的自然,因你而存在,又不存在,是2020年的小小奇迹。(节选)

One is relegated to an island in the middle of the ocean, standing still and alone in the water.

The simulated world is more popular instead. Long before the epidemic, people living near the Arctic Circle would go to video sites to watch ships drifting in the Mediterranean, and desert dwellers would fall asleep to audio recordings of rain on their steps. Games take the simulation of the human experience one step further - everything is from the player's point of view, sounds and images are read and rendered in real time, and what you see and hear is always subtly different from what he or she does. Of all games, the most satisfying way to go far away, to nature, to somewhere else, is walking simulator. This is the kind of game where the environment itself becomes the absolute protagonist, where the story, characters, and action, if they exist at all, exist in a minimalist form, and where people experience the environment via exploration, navigation, and observation. The environment in walking simulators is a space of action that belongs to the player alone, as you move along the mountains and rivers unfold little by little, sometimes seemingly never ending, other times being circled by a maze.

It is an absolutely subjective nature,  which exists and doesn’t exist all because of you --  a small miracle of 2020.(Slected)

今年的艺术家驻留项目邀请艺术家为曹澍&李昂,两位已于2020年9月5日登岛,并开启为期一个月的驻地创作,此期间内,除了在在花鸟岛的户外公共场域、历史遗留建筑内呈现委托创作,也将展开文化交流及公共活动。动画节也将同步进行艺术家的跟踪采访和记录。
